Standing outside the conservatory this week (in gown/robe/bedroom slippers) in the snow
I discovered a new Enfilade.
Oh yes, sublime.

Good accidents, without waiting 3-7 years for discovery, in the garden are verification you've done it RIGHT. Mostly, gardens take time.

Gardening is believing.
So lovely! I know I am supposed to be patient with my garden but my yard is oh so barren! It's a brand new house and the only thing growing in the yard when we moved in was lawn fungus.
I removed TONS of clay soil, replaced it with "good dirt", then planted, planted, planted and planted! I planted until the ground froze under my feet!
Sadly, our lot is so tiny (1/4 acre) and it slopes for drainage, so when I look out the windows all I can see is my neighbor's yards!
They have the typical suburban landscape design in every single house in the block. You know the one, trees planted on islands with shrubs around them, lots of brown mulch and the occasional perennial...maybe five perennials total...salvia, of course.
I am inspired by your eye, humbled by your talent and thankful for your advice!
The 1st image looks like one would expect an old-time ghost story to have occured there, even though the conservatory is so new! That lamp shade is priceless.
And another Tara word for me to learn - enfilade!
Seem like blogs use "Enfilade" as a hallway. I think it's about the view, a surprise view that takes your eye into the distance. I didn't realized how our architect had planned these, delighting and surprising us every day.
From 134. ZEN VIEW, "the problem with any view. It is a beautiful thing. One wants to enjoy it and drink it in every day. But the more open it is, the more obvious, the more it shouts, the sooner it will fade."
and
"If the view must be visible from inside a room, make a special corner of the room which looks onto the view, so that the enjoyment of the view becomes a definite act in its own right."
Lampshade? Thrift store lamp bought ca. 1986. Probably ca. 1930's.
By my bed until last year.
Red leather. Incredible glow with a 40watt bulb.

You teach me so much!

Yes that is a beautiful enfilade (learned a new word here!). Your conservatory looks wonderful inside and out...bet the neighbors love how it looks too if they can see it. I can't wait to get started on our garden inside the picket fence this spring but I know I have to be patient...it will take time to get it the way I want it. Thanks for all the wonderful inspiration Tara.
Maura :)
everything is better with a soft, warm glow! like learning a new word, too!
