How to Design the Best Landscape is Not What You Think: It's Easier

Design your garden for winter, it will be pretty all year.

Spring, roses, hydrangeas, foxgloves & etc. get all the calendar shots, yet the true test remains, winter.

Another counterintuitive garden design rule?  Copy.  If it's beautiful in another garden it will be beautiful in yours, and original.

I so agree that winter reveals the bones. It's why I love stone and hardscape and the often ridiculed yews. And a mix of shrubs and trees that drop leaves at different times like a winter striptease and that hold the magic of snow and give shadows in moonlight.

Good advice. One sees the 'bones' in winter.
I start all my designs with the winter framework then fill in the 'goodies'

Love your new look.

The bit about copying is certainly counterintuitive, but I'm going to trust you and use it.

Another thumbs up for your new design. You must have formatted it when snow fell.

Says it all, too bad many Americans still don't get simple bones, especially more in flyover country!

This white / dark reveals a garden's true strength. In the desert SW, so little white made up for more brown with bright sunlight most days, so green bones perhaps more important.
