Where to Start

Don't know where to begin your Garden Design?

Begin with a table outside.  You must eat.
.
Then, begin with layers of green: trees, shrubs, groundcovers.  Each suited for your zone-sun-shade-parched-moist areas.
.
With the greens add focal points on axis from window views.
.
You've just created a garden in vanishing threshold with your home.

Beautifully said, as usual. How many times have I stood in my space and wondered where to start? And many times have gotten it backwards.
Just returned home from the Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival. Gorgeous gardens, as usual. I drove over to Le Jardin to show my hubby your little conservatory. Was disappointed to see all the furnishings and windows were gone.

Thanks, my daily inspiration from across the continent!

I have a hydrangea question: my blue ones (Penny Mac & other) seem smaller than usual this year. I wondered what I'm doing wrong, then noticed that all around the neighborhood the other blooms look smaller too. Is it just us?
