How To Increase The Drama

Subtle drama, ego in check.  Pair of stone columns, iron gate, half-round stone steps & on axis a Japanese maple.  Not a gaudy statue or etc.
Do you see the opportunity to increase the subtle drama, below?
Remove the pinestraw bed & let the turf flow to the stone wall.

I love this! If I had it to do all over again, I would have no foundation plants at all, just crushed slate....occasionally toped off with fabulous terra cotta pots filled with perfectly pruned boxwood. ...talk about drama! ;)....have a great weekend....k

Interesting...run that lawn to near the wall, too? Seems higher maintenance at those steps to have to mow and trim, but it is a small length to do that, anyway, so maybe I'm off on that?

Tara,

Another great point. You have so inspired and educated me these past few months. As I have perused your books and site I am running to the window and then into the yard and back looking looking looking until I see it. Then ripping out the wrong thing and figuring out the right thing. Your daily bits of insight just hit home with me, I am so glad you share with the rest of us.

Enjoy the weekend!

David, saw it done at Great Dixter, Christopher Lloyd's garden.

You must get your body into his space.
