Compost & Gertrude Jekyll

"The size of a garden has very little to do with its merit. It is merely an accident relating to the circumstances of the owner. It is the size of his heart and brain and goodwill that will make his garden either delightful or dull, as the case may be, and either leave it at the monotonous dead level, or raise it, in whatever degree he may, towards that of a work of fine art."

Gertrude Jekyll, Wood and Garden, 1899 When a client has compost, above, filling their drive I know they are of the finest rank.

Pic taken last week in the same garden as the previous post. Wish you could smell the sweetness of that compost pile.

Words of wisdom on this fine morning out here, Tara! Both the Jekyll quote & you on compost - every size of space, every budget can be great.

No matter the design, a great outdoor living space requires a great client or property owner.

What a wonderful quote! I would love to have that mountain of compost waiting to be used in my garden.

Good Morning Tara!
Oh what beautiful looking compost...I LOVE the smell of that 'black gold'. We have a compost pile near what's left of our old barn which will be dug up and used once we start my little cottage garden. I'm hoping it will be this fall. These people will be greatly rewarded for their effort! I hope your Monday is a good one. Maura :)

Black gold.

That looks really good stuff.

I make compost here. I mix it with mole hill soil and it makes a tremendous potting mix.

I am going to "brag"!!

Not about myself; but my brilliant stepfather!
In 1958 we had a "compost pile"!
And he designed the first "black
plaster pool"!

He was a visionary! And I will try to
"scan" the photos of our garden......
and it was astonishingly forward!

Thank you for the idea!!
