Beware the landscape contractor, with one of my Garden Designs, "No, can't be done."
Stupid does have a price tag.
.
Fieldstone retaining wall, above, in dirt. No concrete + mortar. Italy has quite a few olive orchards, older than Christ, still holding proud their fieldstone in dirt terracing.
.
Stupid-does-have-a-price-tag, said fieldstone in dirt did not work, he wanted to make more money with concrete, mortar, chipped stone. I don't use him anymore. My jobs have grossed millions since then. Do the math.
.
When I mention my Team it's from the heart & head. They make my designs better. Why did I fall for SDHAPT? I met the author of Never Be Lied to Again, when I was the garden expert on NBC-TV morning show. Zero awareness of those lying to me at that time.

Here in Kansas we have great temperature swings and clay soil. Conventional wisdom (perhaps an oxymoron?) would say mortar, mortar, mortar. That's the wrong answer. Drystack is a living breathing thing. Concrete cracks up.
Best credential?
I've made the mistakes before you. Bigger & better.
Stubborn does have a price tag, too.

For us novices, I am not sure what you mean...I am certain a mistake has been made but I am not sure what that mistake is...aside from the construction of a retaining wall being incorrectly more..
Putting in concrete+mortar+chipping stone adds thousands to the price of the wall.
Since he lied several years ago, & I quite using him, he's lost over a quarter million in pure revenue, net, to his bank account from my referrals.

You are so good for me. My own experience with the macho-man mason sent me back to the drawing board in order to PROVE my way would work. Undeterred, he told my client that "everyone did it his way" and that I was just a "housewife who took a stone wall class" with Dan Snow, master stone mason and artist. That was after my taking a full semester in landscape construction design and techniques as part of my LD education. He challenged every element in my design. Of course, he was wrong. Now I get to share with other designers who NOT to hire. :)
