Ubiquitous rectangular home with a jailed-in front porch. American Builder's Special. Ugh.
Remove chunks of railing and disgusting foundation plantings, widen steps, add flagstone landing.
Now, a front porch to enjoy.
I've removed so many porch rails for clients I've lost count.

There's a new sheriff in town!
We don't have too many porches like that here, but I like what you did...much more welcoming. The original condition may be why few use their porches - too prison-like! A friend in TX bought her house with not only a builder-special railed-in porch, but it is far too shallow to be of use.
sometimes i miss my porch on birch lane.
Oh, how I love your front porch!!
Hello,
I love your front porch. Here in Belgium we haven't front porch.
Have a nice sunday

It's not just a porch...it's an inviting porch!
BeaUtiful! We've been swinging back and forth as to how to solve the problem of our front porch. Right now, it's a 1960's "Sear's special" with those hideous plastic windows and vinyl siding.....I've been thinking I want to make it back into a front porch, now I just have to convince the hubby!
I have been after my hubby to put railings on our front porch so we wouldn't be so exposed when we sit out there. Joke is on me! Guess we will just keep it the way it has been the last 30 years. :-)

Oh goodness Tara...I wish my front porch was that big! We don't have a railing though..thank goodness or it would be a little BOX. No plans to enlarge our front porch but one day we'll be building a large screened porch...can't wait till that happens.
Thanks for all the wonderful idea's!
Maura :)
Love to have a porch on my home too. Beautiful images you have shared.
