"Paint the ceiling the same color as the walls", she said.
Susanne Hudson has come onto my team many times thru the years, I trust her. Painting the ceiling was out of my comfort zone. Of course there was no other reply than, "Ok".

Benjamin Moore-HC Rockport Gray.

Morning winter sun, above, reads blue. As summer comes and the trees leaf , the ceiling is white in the mornings and greenish in the afternoon.
.
Walls & ceiling are the same color, above.
.
The ceiling never looks the same color as the walls.

Pic yesterday, had to verify a package delivery. Exciting times, this is the 'before' pic. Gave Susanne a heads-up last weekend about ordering a sofa for this room & slipcovering a pair of chairs. You know I especially love how my garden colors the ceilings.

YES! to painted ceilings. In my new kitchen/library/dining room that faces our garden, I wanted a green ceiling a color that in daylight made it feel like i was cooking in a tree house and at night was snuggy. I chose B Moore's Hillside green (after 12 tries). I love it. Part of the kitchen and day room/pantry have mirror (sheet mirror) on the walls to reflect the garden outside. What a lovely changing tapestry/tracery.
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm dying to see what's in the box, right? And I love the painted ceiling!
ReplyDeleteI always prefer the ceiling and walls the same colour... and when I have done a lighter colour on the ceiling, it never looks as good...
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Easter Tara... xv
Dying to know what sofa you bought. I'm in need of possibly two and am admiring the "Carlisle" from PB, but will probably have something similar made so it last longer (with slipcovers). Love your garden ethic.
ReplyDeleteProbably the main reason ceilings get painted white is because most people don't want to paint them, and even if they change the wall color multiple times over the years, white's gonna work. They think.
ReplyDeleteLight changes everything. If you look at the corner of any room, you will see what happens to any color when it rounds the bend. This is why I think it's humorous when people drive themselves bonkers choosing what the think is a perfect wall color when it's always going to be influenced by time of day, time of year, artificial interior lighting, and what reflective surfaces are in the room. It's like choosing the perfect husband. Sort of.
I think it depends on the colour, sometimes it's fun but sometimes it makes you feel like the ceiling is pushing down on you. I think it helps if you have a different colour ceiling trim.
ReplyDeleteI've also seen some pretty spectacular ceilings with wallpaper on them. Tempting, but to much work for me!
