How little can you have and it be a garden?
Remember Gertrude Jekyll's "....the first thing I consider, when planning a garden, is what to put on the house."
.
For ease of maintenance I prefer espaliered woody shrubs. No wires, no trellis.
.
House & terrace, above, are vanishing threshold.

My Boston Ivy is on its third year of growth. I love the way it cloaks the house in a soothing, verdant embrace!

Perfection!
ReplyDeleteGreat Jekyll line...must think how to adapt that to lower slung buildings, or those of a more modern style.
ReplyDeleteLove the scale and simplicity of this.
ReplyDeleteI so miss my outdoor rooms in TX. But I don't miss what I had to put up with to have them...

My one story house bears the burdon of wisteria on one side, boston ivy on another, clematis and new dawn climbing roses on a third side and English Ivy on the forth side. I regret to say I over did it. Way, way too much maintenance. Ann
ReplyDeleteI love this! I love the house, the vine, the tree, the furniture and the dog bed!!
ReplyDeleteJust divine!!!
